Does your child need speech therapy?

It is never too early or too late to start speech therapy.  Parent need to act proactively to identify your child’s needs for speech therapy instead of using the wait and see approach.

When communication delays are left untreated in early childhood, it can lead to future academic and learning challenges.

H.O.P.E. specializes in the following areas:

  • Autism

Children who are on the autism spectrum disorder present with persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction. A speech-language pathologist can help develop the early linguistic skills that are critical to communication development for children who are on the autism spectrum disorder.

  • Apraxia of Speech

Apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that can be an underlying issue as to why children are not talking or if they are talking it is difficult to understand what they are saying. Apraxia of speech can be difficult to diagnose for children who are three year and younger. However, we offer specialized instructions if the child is suspected of having apraxia of speech.

  • Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

For many children, alternative communication serves as a bridge to verbal language. We offer many forms of alternative communication such as pictures, signs, Proloquo2go, LAMP Words for Life, and etc.

  • Social-Emotional Development

Young children have difficulty regulating their emotions due to the undeveloped prefrontal cortex. Young children will need the adults to support them through this learning curve.

  • Early Intervention

Children who are 3-year-old or younger can qualify for speech therapy services through the regional center or insurance. It is better to intervene early instead of using the wait and see approach because the earlier children receive services, the more likely they are to develop effective communication skills.
